Although he’s a perceptive observer of individuals, issues and area, Borremans says he paints tradition versus nature. When he makes a portray of a human face, as an illustration, he isn’t involved with the mimetic means of portraiture, fairly with a notion of the ineffable nature of human psychology; with what it’d imply to be—and to signify—a human being right now. Although it’s characterised by an usually absurd playfulness, an abiding sense of isolation and disquiet permeates Michaël’s work.
